This is the second part of a series of stories in The Guidon looking at issues around sex, love and the health risks of promiscuity on campus at Norwich University. Complaints about the stories prompted a move to pull the paper from student mailboxes, an order Pres. Richard Schneider rescinded, backing the right of The Guidon to publish. An article in the Nov. 21 edition of “The Guidon” spurred a lot of discussion about male promiscuity on the Norwich University campus among students, staff, faculty and even parents.

However, the strongest opinions came from the 25 percent female population of Norwich University, who had mixed thoughts about what the promiscuous males in the article, “Sex and virginity at Norwich: Guys tell all,” had to say. [Read more…]

Every fall, a new term begins for many undergraduates at colleges around the U.S., and with that comes an influx of young men and women who find themselves together on one campus. As the stress of academics and work heat up, the students’ social lives do as well.

So too should concerns about sexually transmitted diseases and the often not-discussed issues around sex. [Read more…]

The Norwich University Dean of Students has threatened to ask NU President Richard Schneider to disband the Norwich University Student Government Association (SGA), according to an SGA official.

The SGA official, who requested anonymity, said that Dean of Students Martha Mathis expressed concern about the lack of representation for civilian students, and she said that members of the Corps of Cadets cannot accurately represent traditional students’ interests. [Read more…]

‘The Stick’ remains a top Norwich University hangout

Rustic copyThe Rustic Lounge and Sports bar, located on Route 12, has long been a hotspot for Norwich students. Rivaling Norwich’s own Pub, the Rustic is a relaxing place to go with friends, according to those who frequent the Route 12 watering hole

“The Rustic is a known hotspot near Norwich University,” said Patrick Venetz, 20, a junior criminal justice major from Old Forge, N.Y. Not only do current students love it, but alumni fill the place over alumni weekend, he noted. [Read more…]

As the Editor-in-Chief of The Guidon, I feel it my duty as well as my privilege to explain the publication of our last issue on Nov. 21.

First off, I would like to thank Pres. Richard Schneider for his continued support of The Guidon. Nothing makes me more proud to be a Norwich Cadet than when we have the support of our administration as we, the students, live and learn through our four years here on the Hill. [Read more…]
